The discipline of Agricultural and Forestry Economics and Management was established in 1977. It has been a key discipline in the province for 21 consecutive years and is currently a first-class discipline in the province (A-level) and a key discipline cultivated by the National Forestry and Grassland Administration. The discipline focuses on three areas: Forestry Economics and Management, Agricultural and Forestry Resources and Environmental Management, and Rural and Regional Development. It has a postdoctoral research station in Agricultural and Forestry Economics and Management, as well as doctoral and master's programs. It also serves as a key research base for philosophy and social sciences in the province and a key new-type professional think tank. The undergraduate program in Agricultural and Forestry Economics and Management is recognized as a first-class program in the country. The discipline offers first-class courses, including the national virtual simulation experimental teaching course "Virtual Simulation Experiment in Plantation Family Farm Management Decision-making," the blended online and offline first-class course "Modern Forestry Economics," and the first-class course on social practice "Research Methods and Practices."

The discipline currently has 52 full-time teachers, including 3 national-level talents and 14 high-level talents at the provincial level. The discipline has established a disciplinary and professional management team system, breaking barriers between disciplines and professional development. It supports the development of professional programs and has been approved as a first-class program in the province and a national first-class course, achieving integration of discipline and professional development. It has established three teaching and research teams led by national "Ten Thousand Talents Program" talents in philosophy and social sciences, supporting the growth of young teachers. Three individuals have been selected for the provincial university innovation leadership talent program, and eight individuals have been selected for the university's Tianmu (Youth) Scholars, Outstanding Youth, and Young Talent programs.

In the 2020 subject rankings, it ranked in the top 30% according to the subject evaluation (B- in the fifth round). The discipline has established the Chinese editorial office of FPE (SSCI/SCI Q1), creating the distinctive brand "Walking on the Path in the Countryside." It has achieved a series of results, including being recognized as the "First Batch of Party Building Characteristic Brands in Provincial Universities" and "Demonstration Brand for Practical Education in Provincial Universities." It has been extensively covered by more than 20 mainstream media outlets, such as Guangming Daily, People's Daily Online, Zhejiang Daily, and Zhejiang TV.
